[Security](https://productcart-kb.nsource.com/kb/security?hsLang=en) March 5, 2024 # Google reCAPTCHA Google reCAPTCHA is a tool that prevents malicious programs from automatically filling out and submitting information through the forms on your Product Cart website. This helps prevent spam from coming in to your email or being posted to feedback areas on the site. We chose Google reCAPTCHA for ProductCart because most users will only have to select one checkbox to verify they are not a robot. This is less likely to cause confusion or deter a user from continuing through the checkout process or contact form than CAPTCHA options that require you type a word or phrase. ## Turning On reCAPTCHA You can turn on Google reCAPTCHA from the Advanced Security Settings page in your Control Panel (under Settings \> Advanced Settings \> Advanced Security Settings). This page lets you select which areas of the site are protected by CAPTCHA. You can protect the Login/Registration Page, the Product Review form, and the Contact Us form on your contact page. The page also has options to use the traditional CAPTCHA (which shows a series of letters and numbers that the user must type) or the new Google reCAPTCHA. There is a link from the Advanced Security Settings page to the Google reCAPTCHA settings page which can also be found under Settings, Advanced Settings, Google reCAPTCHA settings. ## Google reCAPTCHA Settings Page **reCAPTCHA Keys** This area lets you change your “Site Key” and “Secret Key” that verify a secure connection between your website and the Google service. You can get your keys by visiting Google at [https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin](https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin) which has instructions to get your new keys. You must have a Google account to get you keys and use reCAPTCHA. When setting up your Google reCaptcha make to choose the " **reCaptcha V2**" option and  **"I'm not a robot" Checkbox** option. At this time ProductCart does NOT support the invisible option. **reCAPTCHA Settings** There are three options that control to the way the reCAPTCHA box appears on your site. - Widget Theme You can choose a light or dark theme for the reCAPTCHA widget that appears on the site depending on which option looks better with the rest of your theme. Widget Type   - From time to time reCAPTCHA may require additional verification that a user isn’t a robot. You can choose if the default additional validation uses images or audio to help prove the user is a real person.
