Due to cost concerns and technical service issues, ProductCart no longer recommends the use of vendor-provided tax files for the calculation of state sales tax. ProductCart now makes state sales tax rates available through the Netsource Sales Tax API.
The Netsource Sales Tax API interface is included in all versions of ProductCart software versions 5.4 and higher. The API can be back-fit to version 5.3 sites, but we recommend upgrading to the latest version software to get the tax API functionality.
NOTE: Our tax API is based on zip code, not geolocation. This means that if three cities exist in the same zip code then the highest rate is returned amongst the three. Along with city tax, any and all taxes (including levied, county and state taxes) are used to calculate the total taxes for any given zip code and added in the customer's cart as a single line item "Taxes".
The Netsource Sales Tax API supplies sales tax rates for all 50 US states and updates all tax rates on a daily basis. Access to the tax API is a subscription service, currently available for $30 per month. Please contact Netsource sales to activate an account for your ProductCart store. API access is available to both ProductCart-hosted stores and to stores hosted on third-party services.

The sales tax amount paid information is included in the tax details section of ProductCart reporting. No other tax-related information is included in the reporting, and the API doesn't include any functionality for reporting to state taxing authorities or remitting any tax payments to state authorities.
